The Shafallah Center for Children with Special Needs:
Shafallah is a center of excellence that provides comprehensive services to individuals with developmental learning challenges, their families, and the community. Shafallah was established at the behest of Her Highness Sheikha Mozah Bint Nasser Bin Abdullah AL-Missned, to meet the demands of the Qatari society to establish a center that provides comprehensive services to children with special needs. The center is a non-profit, private facility providing diagnosis, evaluation, school programs, training and development services for children with all forms of disabilities ages 3 to 21 years of age.
Educational and related services are provided by a highly qualified transdisciplinary team of specialists. Areas of expertise include special education, rehabilitation, cognitive assessment, social work, child and adolescent psychiatry, pediatrics, behavior analysis, counseling, music therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy and speech and language pathology.
“Shafallah” is the Arabic name for the exquisite flower of the caper plant, a small shrub native to the Mediterranean area and bountiful in Qatar. Capers are beautiful pink and white flowers with immature, unopened buds. As with the Shafallah flower, the Shafallah Center combines usefulness with the beauty of its special children to encourage their growth and development. |

The Shafallah Center has five main goals and objectives:
1. To provide comprehensive educational, instructional, rehabilitation, social, vocational and recreational services for children with special needs.
2. To provide support and family counseling services to families of children with special needs, including individual and group therapy.
3. To provide community awareness on dealing with children with special needs, as well as fostering acceptance and understanding of the nature of disabilities.
4. To provide training opportunities through the Shafallah Center and establish a national entity specializing in this field.
5. To serve as an advocate for public policy and legislative support of appropriate educational and vocational programs for children with special needs. |
